BaaS

BaaS is a new concept in the hosted Information technology service delivery model, introduced by Palladium technologies Ltd. It is designed to provide biometric identity verification services to the public and private sector. The BaaS offering is a hosted solution based on robust services that allow a variety of organizations to biometrically verify a person’s identity securely and with absolute confidence without the huge upfront capital outlay. Palladium’s BSP (Biometric Service Provider) unit will deliver biometric verification as a service, through our model which we call “BaaS” Biometrics as a Service.
We have created a radically new approach that will allow all types of organizations to use biometric verification technology without the upfront investment which is typically the main barrier to wider adoption and utilization. We have also removed the inherent complexity in biometric systems implementations and created a user-friendly, readily deployable solution delivered as a pay-per-use service implemented over secure internet or GSM/GPRS connections. Our BaaS service can be used by organizations ranging from the examination board that needs to establish a student’s identity to prevent fraud to a state government that seeks to eliminate “ghost workers” to a bank that needs to biometrically verify or establish customer identities. BaaS will provide rapid and low-cost adoption path to biometric technology without the huge investment required for a complete in-house biometric s systems.  Communications to the BaaS systems is via encrypted secure connections from participating organizations. We only keep the fingerprint representations for the contracted period as requested by customers. Palladium Technologies Ltd has launched TruID, a nationwide biometric verification service based on its BaaS infrastructure, TruID is available wherever there is GSM coverage. TruID is the brand name for our BaaS offering and has been extensively tested across the country with outstanding results. We are currently positioning TruID a multi-vertical biometric verification solution delivered at incredible cost savings.

BaaS Use Cases:

1. Examination board use case:

Examination bodies that conduct nationwide examinations for various purposes need to ascertain the identity of exam takers in order to prevent fraud. Candidates are typically instructed to pay and register at various banks across the country before the examinations. As part of the registration, candidates shall be required to be biometrically enrolled using Palladium’s BaaS technology. On the day of the examination, candidate identity is verified from any location across the country with GSM access through Palladium’s BaaS technology that allows biometric verification using GSM/GPRS Smartphones or internet connected laptops.

2. Human Resources and Payroll use case:

Both government and public sector organizations that need to reliably verify the identity of staff and maintain staff rolls can employ IT Innovation’s BaaS technology to biometrically enroll staff to eliminate the scourge of “ghost workers”. An individual worker that has been biometrically enrolled can only be associated with one job at any time and can thus only be paid for that particular job. In conjunction with national banks, organizations can further ensure that staff only gets paid once during every pay period via our biometric duplicate pay determination system (DPDS). IT Innovations shall also offer its services to third party HR consultants.

3. Financial Institution use case:

Banks, Microfinance banks, pension funds companies and financial organizations of all types that need to establish and verify the identity of customers can very easily leverage IT Innovation’s BaaS to establish identity. As part of general fraud prevention financial institutions can enroll customers that conduct transactions above certain predetermined amounts, such programs provide forensic evidence for fraud investigation and can also serve as a general deterrent.

4. National Election Commissions use case:

BaaS is a natural fit for the NEC because it is a distributed technology that is available in any location with GSM/GPRS service. NECs also do not have to incur the costs to maintain the complicated national infrastructure and expertise required to conduct biometric verification of voters nationwide. BaaS has definite potential to enhance the democratic process across African by providing voter registration credibility and general increased integrity of the election process. In many African countries where citizens are not uniquely identifiable through readily verifiable means, BaaS is just what is needed.
